October 2014 – Weekly
Walk & Restore
James Island County Park and Caw Caw Interpretive Center
Walk and restore your mind and body on shaded park trails of James Island County Park or the Caw Caw Interpretive Center. This class occurs several times a week at different locations. During this 55-minute class, restorative yoga professionals will lead participants along short walking loops stopping intermittently to stretch and relax, then head inside to focus solely on restorative yoga – strength, flexibility, balance, and breath. Leave the chaos of the day behind in our sunset yoga series at your beautiful Isle of Palms County Park. Guided by instructor Alex Mirzayan of Charleston Power Yoga and accompanied by live acoustic music from Susan Conant and Gregory Guay, Yoga Unplugged is a surefire way to revitalize your body and soul! All fitness levels are welcome. 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze

This annual fall festival draws visitors of all ages from all over the state with a variety of fall attractions, events, activities, and of course, pumpkin patch fun. And of course, there will be plenty of pumpkins available that are to be paid for by the pound. The Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze will be open every day October 1-31. Hours of operation will be Monday-Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 11am-6pm. Every Tuesday the event is open there will be a Two For Tuesday Special that will allow one adult to be admitted FREE with each $10 paid child admission. This offer does not apply to children under the age of 3.

Open Fri. 3 to 10, Sat. 10 to 10, Sun. 1 to 6. Visit the pumpkin patch with pumpkins ranging from $3 to $8. Wax myrtle maze, hayride to feed the cows, make a scarecrow, concessions, fossil mine and much more. Entry fee: $1 per person. Some activities are extra.

Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child
The Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child returns on Oct. 4, 2014. Proceeds benefit the prevention and healing of child abuse in the Charleston area. Online registration closes Oct. 2, so late entries must be submitted in-person during packet pick-up times.

Art of Healing: Dancing Through Life as Art

Participants will learn to take everyday movements and turn them into a dance while simultaneously perceiving your body and your life as art. Learn to move in ways that allow you to feel alive in your body. This will open the way to perceiving life around you as art, viewing everything as wonder and admiration. Taught by Stephaney Robinson-Abilon, Faculty Member of Nia Training and Faculty Member of the Sophia Institute.

Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk

Join the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club for their 3rd Annual Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk at the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park from 6-9 p.m. Funds raised will purchase: Bicycles for Christmas distribution through Toys for Tots, shoes for school children through Rotary Happy Feet. The unique Thursday night race will take you through beautiful Mt. Pleasant, SC starting near the foot of the Ravenel Bridge and Waterfront Park, through Patriots Point, and back again. The fun doesn’t stop with the end of the race! There will be a live German band, beer, and brats to enjoy at Waterfront Park overlooking the Ravenel Bridge and Wando River.

All levels welcome including beginner through advanced aerialists. All apparatuses will be used. Wondering how professional aerialists make the impossible look so easy? It’s simple; good form equals efficiency of movement, the illusion of effortlessness, endurance and aerial longevity. In this workshop, we will approach the fundamentals of aerials with an obsessive-like attention to detail, otherwise known as “dorking out.”

Pre-requisites: This workshop is for aerial fabric students who have passed Aerial Fit’s climb test, are comfortable straddling up in the air multiple times, and familiar with thigh hitch. Visiting aerialists or anyone who has not taken our climb test please contact us in advance. A new exciting silks workshop by Paper Doll Militia focusing on sequence climbs and interesting descents that take the entire length of the silks. In this workshops you will not only learn material which lends itself to spirals and fluid curvy movement, we will also be exploring the body techniques involved in executing this style. Learn how to free up your spine, curve into the silks, and connect one movement to the next in a flowing style that will transform your relationship to the silks.

Children’s Day Festival

Old and new traditions meet annually at the 27th Annual Mount Pleasant Children’s Day Festival presented by BI-LO! Noon – 5 p.m. at the Park West Recreation Complex. From time-honored festival games and old-fashioned pony rides to enormous inflatable slides, live entertainment, wall climbing, face painting, and many other activities. Admission, all activities and parking are free. Food concessions are offered by East Cooper schools as a fundraising opportunity for their programs.

The Second Annual Colour of Music Festival will usher in the fall arts season, with more than 20 performances that will showcase the breadth and influence of blacks on the classical music world past and present.
