Eat Healthy at The Sprout Cafe

The kids are back in school and fall is upon us. And if you’re like us at The Sprout Cafe, you’re still getting used to the transition from a low-key summer to a busy fall, complete with work, school, after school activities, family life, all the while trying to eat right and exercise.

The Sprout Cafe can help you find balance by offering healthy foods, juices and smoothies for the entire family, catering services and detoxes to help boost your energy and your immune system.

Healthy foods, smoothies and juices for the whole fam
Wouldn’t you love it if someone would cook for you? Easy. Done. Just swing by The Sprout Café to pick up any of our organic meals and juices. Dine-in or call in your order and carry a meal home for the whole family. Choose from burritos, tacos, sprouted bread sandwiches, salads, soups and side items – all organic and made in-house. We even have kids’ meals.

The Sprout Café also caters. We can provide daily meals or cater for special occasions. The Sprout specializes in creating vibrant, organic, healthy options for parties, meetings or gatherings. The Sprout can also craft a single tray or do a full catering including fresh juices.

Reboot your body
The Sprout Café’s Juice Fasts and Detox programs are a great way to reboot your body, and the change in seasons is the perfect time to do so.

“If you take the time to clean your body out as the season is changing, you are more equipped to handle the new histamines and allergens in the air,” says Caroline Brennan, who owns The Sprout Café with her husband Mickey Brennan. “In doing so, your body will be at its prime when exposure to germs. In addition, giving your body a break from the regular digestive process allows your body to redirect its energy to healing and give your systems the opportunity to do their absolute best. Your body will have more energy to work on an influx of new germs in school, at work … in the air.”

Eat better, feel better
The Sprout Café serves meals, smoothies and juices made from fresh organic ingredients delivered direct from a local farm. You can TASTE the difference and you will FEEL the difference.

“I think for everyone, for the most part, you don’t really understand how you don’t feel good until you eat food that’s good for you, or take it a step further and detox or do a juice fast,” Caroline said. “And then you get a little taste of what it feels like to be a bit healthier. You either feel a shift in your sleep pattern or you notice your energy doesn’t dip in the afternoon. Or maybe your skin or your sinus infection clears up. Or maybe you fight off a cold faster than before. When you eat better, you just feel better.”

Strawberry Smooties

The Strawberry

Strawberry season is coming to a close locally, but it’s not too late to get your fix!

Some local farms still have pick-your-own

  • Strawberries are the only fruit that wear their seeds on the outside. The average berry is adorned with some 200 of them. No wonder it only takes one bite to get seeds stuck in your teeth.
  • Strawberries aren’t true berries, like blueberries or even grapes. Technically, a berry has its seeds on the inside. And, to be über technical, each seed on a strawberry is considered by botanists to be its own separate fruit. Whoa, meta!
  • Strawberries are members of the rose family. Should you come upon a bush of them growing, you’ll see: they smell as sweet as they taste.
  • The strawberry plant is a perennial. This means if you plant one now, it will come back next year and the following and the year after that. It may not bear fruit immediately, but once it does, it will remain productive for about five years.
  • Americans eat an average of three-and-a-half pounds of fresh strawberries each per year. It’s closer to five pounds if you count frozen ones. In a study, more than half of nine-year-olds picked strawberries as their favorite fruit. They’re nature’s candy!
  • Strawberries can also be pickled. Especially when picked green or unripe. If your berries are overripe, make jam! They are an excellent source of Vitamin C- a powerful natural antioxidant, rich in B-complex group of vitamins. contain a good amounts of vitamin B-6, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid and folic acid. Together, these help the body metabolize carbohydrate, proteins and fats.
Many of our smoothies contain strawberries.
Organic strawberries, that is – the best!
Or, customize your own smoothie and take advantage of this powerful fruit.
It’s shaped like a heart for a reason.

21-Day Living Food Detox special at The Sprout Cafe

Group Special: 21-Day Living Food Detox at The Sprout Café

The Sprout Cafe is offering an amazing discount for our 21-Day Living Food Detox in November. Recruit four friends to purchase the detox with you and each person receives the detox program for just $100 each. This is a savings of $200 per person. The group discount is only available through Nov. 30, 2014, but you can redeem when it’s convenient for you!

“To commit to and experience the detox with a group is really empowering. It creates community and support, and it allows for a richer experience,” says Caroline Brennan, co-owner of The Sprout Café with her husband Mickey, a chef and detox coach. “Plus, it’s a huge deal at $100 per person when five people purchase the detox as a group.”

While you are purchasing as a group, you will receive an individualized, one-on-one consultation with Mickey to cover your health history and set goals. The detox will be tailored to your health needs.

You also receive a detox manual that outlines what you will do during the detox. It includes recipes for smoothies and other meals to consume during the detox, as well as supportive articles. The reading provides you with some of the ideology behind the detox The Sprout Café offers and includes extensive nutritional information related to the foods we recommend.

This detox is not a fast; it is 100% nutrition based. No pills, no formulas or solutions you need to drink. It’s all food-based, that’s why we call it the Living Food Detox. The detox is designed to give your body a break from digesting heavy foods so that your body can focus on healing.

General overview of the detox

Week one: The first week, you will enjoy a vegan diet, which you may know means no animal products. If you’re already vegan, you can move into the raw food portion quickly.

Week two: The second week focuses on eating raw food. This means food that is not cooked. It’s quite easy to eat a raw diet and Mickey can answer all questions about the types of food, how to prepare the food, where to find recommended foods and more.

Week three: This week involves a juice fast or a master cleanse program recommended by The Sprout Café.

In addition to the Living Food Detox, Mickey can discuss other cleansing techniques to rid your body of waste, such as body brushing, tongue scraping and more.

“It all goes along with how you’ll be nourishing your body. You’ll be consuming nutrients that are easily assimilated and don’t take a lot of energy to digest so that your body can direct all that energy toward healing. It’s shocking, but our bodies use 70% of our energy to process food,” Caroline said.

Purchase the detox by Nov. 30, 2014 and choose to begin whenever it’s best for your schedule. It would be a great way to start the New Year. The detox does not include food or juices, however The Sprout Cafe can point you in the right direction for food and juices to consume during your detox, whether you want to create meals/juices yourself or purchase them ready-made.

What you can expect

While everyone’s experience is different, you can generally expect to experience body regulation and weight loss, increased energy and improved sleep.

The special group pricing on the 21-Day Living Food Detox – 5 people for $500 – is only good through Nov. 30, 2014.

Organic apples at The Sprout Cafe

Sweet, healthy organic apples

Crisp fall weather has us thinking about crisp organic apples and all of the health benefits this popular fruit has to offer. The Sprout Café includes organic apples in many of our juices and smoothies, offering a subtle sweetness that mixes well with a wide range of vegetables and fruits.

Our signature juice is the Green Lantern, which includes fresh apple juice, fresh celery juice and a shot of wheatgrass. Check out our entire menu of juices and smoothies here.

Organic is best

Organic is an important distinction when it comes to apples because, according to the USDA, more pesticides are found on apples than any other fruit or vegetable (47).

This is one of the many reasons why we use all organic ingredients at The Sprout Cafe. If we serve it, it’s organic.
